Terms of Service

Last updated: September 2026

1. The service

DCMView ("the service") is a web tool that opens DICOM (.dcm) medical imaging files directly in your browser: you can view the images, step through multi-frame files, and read the embedded metadata. The files themselves never leave your device — all parsing and rendering happen locally in your browser. The viewer is free and unlimited.

2. Not for diagnosis — no medical use

The service is a file-format utility, not a medical device. It is not intended, designed, or cleared for diagnostic use, measurement, screening, or any treatment decision. Rendering involves choices (windowing, color-space handling, unsupported transfer syntaxes) that can make an image incomplete or misleading. Always review clinical images on a regulated diagnostic workstation with a qualified professional. We are not liable for any clinical decision made using this tool.

3. Accuracy disclaimer — you must verify what you see

Real-world DICOM files vary enormously (proprietary transfer syntaxes, vendor-private tags, compressed pixel data, non-standard encodings). The parser and renderer are best-effort: some files will not render, some tags may not decode, and some images may display with incorrect windowing. You are responsible for verifying any finding against the original file on trusted software before relying on it — especially for legal, forensic, clinical, or archival purposes.

4. No professional advice

Nothing on this site constitutes medical, legal, forensic, or other professional advice. A rendered image or metadata table is a convenience view, not a certified record.

5. Your responsibilities — patient data

You may use the service only for files you are authorized to possess. Although the files never leave your device by design, you remain the data controller for any protected health information in them: your obligations under HIPAA, GDPR, or other applicable law (access control on your device, breach duties, patient consent) are unaffected by using this tool and are yours alone.

6. Intellectual property

The service, its design, and its code are our property. Your files and everything in them remain entirely yours. "DICOM" is a registered trademark of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA); this independent tool is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by NEMA.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service (in whole or in part) at any time.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, or clinical or legal outcomes arising from use of the service.

9. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time; the "last updated" date above reflects the current version. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
